Illinois's 5th congressional district remains a strongly Democratic seat, reflected in the market's heavy weighting toward the Democratic nominee. All major forecasters rate the race Solid or Safe Democratic based on the district's partisan lean, where recent presidential results showed a roughly 37-point margin. Incumbent Mike Quigley secured the Democratic nomination in the March 2026 primary and faces Republican nominee Tom Hanson in the November general election. Quigley's long tenure since 2009, combined with consistent Democratic performance in Cook County and surrounding areas, underpins trader consensus. Potential shifts could arise from late developments such as candidate withdrawal tied to Quigley's separate Chicago mayoral campaign, significant scandals, or unexpected turnout changes, though structural factors make these low-probability events before Election Day.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
