**Nebraska's 2nd congressional district features an open seat following Republican incumbent Don Bacon's retirement, creating a top Democratic pickup opportunity in a district with a Cook Partisan Voter Index of D+3.** The May 2026 primaries produced Democratic nominee Denise Powell, who narrowly defeated state Sen. John Cavanaugh, and Republican nominee Brinker Harding, who ran unopposed after other candidates withdrew. Forecasters including the Cook Political Report (Lean Democratic), Sabato's Crystal Ball (Lean Democratic), and Decision Desk HQ (Likely Democratic) rate the general election as favoring Democrats due to the district's suburban Omaha base and recent presidential voting patterns. Recent developments include Powell outraising Harding in the latest quarterly reports while both candidates hold roughly comparable cash reserves, alongside early outside spending by House Majority PAC and the Congressional Leadership Fund. These factors align with trader consensus assigning the Democratic Party an implied probability near 79 percent for the November 2026 general election outcome.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
