Recent National Weather Service and private model guidance for Chicago on September 12 indicates mostly sunny skies and southerly flow supporting daytime highs in the low-to-mid 80s, above the 1991–2020 average of 77.5°F. Trader consensus clusters around 82–85°F because ensemble runs show limited cloud cover and modest warm advection without strong frontal passages or lake-breeze suppression. Key differentiating factors include the strength of the surface high and boundary-layer mixing depth, which control how much solar heating reaches the surface versus moderation from Lake Michigan. Updated model cycles through the weekend and any shifts in 850-hPa temperatures or dew points could adjust the final maximum, while historical extremes above 90°F remain rare for the date.
