Gold (XAU/USD) has recovered to around $4,380 per ounce in mid-August 2026 after correcting sharply from its January all-time high near $5,600, with the rebound fueled by tame July CPI and PPI prints that lowered odds of near-term Federal Reserve rate hikes. This has eased pressure from rising Treasury yields and a firmer dollar, while persistent central bank buying and geopolitical risks continue to anchor demand for the non-yielding asset. Traders are watching upcoming U.S. economic releases and any FOMC communications for shifts in the implied rate path, which remains the dominant driver of short-term price action amid broader monetary policy uncertainty.
