With the 2027 Best Documentary Feature race still in its earliest phase, trader sentiment reflects a wide-open field where no film exceeds low-double-digit implied probability. Once Upon a Time in Harlem leads on the strength of its Sundance premiere, Neon backing, and unique 1972 Harlem Renaissance footage completed by director William Greaves’ son, while American Doctor follows closely after festival audience awards and its August theatrical rollout focused on physicians in Gaza. Additional momentum around Musk, Nuisance Bear, and One in a Million stems from director pedigrees and early critical notice, yet historical patterns show late-year releases and guild attention often reshape the category. Expect shifts once more 2026 titles screen and precursor season begins.
