Incumbent Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng of the Kuomintang holds an overwhelming trader consensus lead in the November 28, 2026, mayoral race, driven by his established incumbency advantage and consistent local approval ratings near 62 percent. Candidate registration closed on September 4 with only two contenders confirmed: Chang seeking a second term under KMT nomination and Democratic Progressive Party challenger Huang Shih-chieh, a former legislator and deputy justice minister nominated in April. The matchup reflects standard partisan lines in this special municipality, with no significant late developments or polling shifts reported in the preceding weeks that would narrow the gap. Huang’s prior legislative experience in Taoyuan provides some visibility, yet the absence of broader national tailwinds for the DPP or notable controversies around Chang has kept the implied probability heavily weighted toward the incumbent.
