President Trump has publicly endorsed renaming Immigration and Customs Enforcement to National Immigration and Customs Enforcement, creating the acronym NICE, following a social media suggestion in late April 2026. He reiterated the idea in early May remarks, citing the current name's negative connotations while noting opposition from border czar Tom Homan. Any formal change would require congressional legislation rather than an executive order, adding procedural hurdles typical of agency reauthorizations. Recent White House and Department of Homeland Security social media activity has referenced the proposed rebrand, but no bill has advanced in Congress as of mid-May. Traders are weighing the president's repeated signals against legislative timelines and potential resistance within the administration.
