President Trump publicly endorsed renaming Immigration and Customs Enforcement to National Immigration and Customs Enforcement (NICE) in late April 2026 after a social media suggestion, posting “GREAT IDEA!!! DO IT” on Truth Social and later sharing mockups, agency memes, and a June poll gauging support for the change to counter media criticism during expanded deportation operations. The proposal has generated ongoing discussion but faces a core structural barrier: altering the agency’s statutory name requires congressional legislation, not an executive order. Administration accounts have used the term informally, yet officials have described the effort primarily as branding or trolling, while some ICE leadership reportedly prefers retaining the original name. Trader sentiment reflects these procedural hurdles alongside the president’s repeated personal promotion of the idea.
