Taiwan's divided government has fueled ongoing friction between Premier Cho Jung-tai and the opposition-controlled Legislative Yuan, where the KMT and TPP hold a majority. Cho has repeatedly refused to countersign multiple bills passed by the legislature, including recent measures on youth savings accounts and broadcasting rules, prompting accusations of constitutional overreach. Opposition lawmakers fast-tracked a condemnation motion against him in late August 2026 that could reach a vote within weeks, though a no-confidence motion capable of forcing resignation remains unlaunched. Institutional rules allow the president to appoint any successor, and past calculations have led the opposition to avoid triggering removal. These dynamics shape trader assessments of near-term departure risk amid persistent gridlock.

An announcement of Cho Jung-tai's resignation/removal before this market's end date will immediately resolve this market to "Yes", regardless of when the announced resignation/removal goes into effect.
If the specified individual is detained, effectively removed from the specified position, or otherwise permanently prevented from fulfilling the duties of the specified position within this market’s timeframe, it will qualify for a “Yes” resolution.
The resolution source for this market will be official information from Cho Jung-tai and the government of Taiwan; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
