The Federal Reserve’s unanimous September 16 decision to raise the federal funds rate target range by 25 basis points to 3.75–4.00 percent—its first hike since 2023—served as the dominant driver of DXY strength during the week of September 14. Updated dot-plot projections reinforced expectations for at least one additional increase this year, lifting 10-year Treasury yields above 5 percent and widening the rate differential versus other major central banks. Persistent inflation above the 2 percent goal, combined with elevated oil prices and Middle East geopolitical tensions, further supported safe-haven demand for the dollar. DXY climbed from levels near 99.1–99.4 early in the week to above 100.3 by September 16, reflecting the market-implied shift toward a higher-for-longer policy path. Traders will monitor upcoming labor-market data and any follow-through commentary for signs of further policy adjustments.
