**Trader consensus heavily favors 76-77°F as the day's high in Chicago, reflecting the long-term climatological average high of 76°F for September 16 (1991–2020 normals) and initial model guidance before the latest forecast adjustments.** National Weather Service and other models now indicate a cooler outcome in the lower 70s amid mostly cloudy skies, scattered showers, and northeast winds of 5–10 mph that limit daytime heating. Current afternoon readings near 72–73°F align with this pattern, driven by increased cloud cover and precipitation potential rather than strong warm advection. Market-implied odds aggregate trader assessments of observational data from official stations, incorporating uncertainty ranges in short-term forecasts. A realistic challenge would require unexpected clearing or a shift in steering flow that allows greater insolation and pushes readings above the forecast envelope, though model consensus currently supports staying near or below the seasonal norm.
