Giorgia Meloni maintains the strongest position in trader assessments for Italy's next prime minister due to her role as incumbent leading a centre-right coalition that continues to top recent polling averages ahead of the 2027 general election. A March 2026 constitutional referendum defeat on judicial reform eroded some of her government's momentum and prompted opposition gains, elevating Silvia Salis as a potential unifying left-wing candidate through her local record and national visibility. Fragmented centre-left dynamics involving Elly Schlein and Giuseppe Conte limit immediate challenges, while Meloni pursues electoral adjustments that could reinforce her coalition's majority prospects under Italy's parliamentary system.
