Latest ensemble forecasts from MetService and international models indicate a southerly airstream will dominate on September 20, limiting daytime heating and positioning the maximum temperature near 14–15°C after a frontal passage. This aligns with Wellington’s spring climatology, where average September highs reach 13–14°C amid variable winds and frequent marine influences. Recent model runs show consistent agreement on modest diurnal ranges under partly cloudy skies with a chance of showers, reducing odds of exceeding 16°C. Traders’ heavy weighting toward 15°C reflects this consensus, though minor shifts in wind timing or cloud cover could adjust the peak by 1°C ahead of final MetService guidance.
