Recent April 2026 CPI data, showing a 0.6% month-over-month gain that matched forecasts amid surging energy prices tied to the Iran conflict, anchors trader sentiment for the May monthly inflation print. With 0.6% and 0.5% outcomes nearly tied at 38.0% and 37.5% market-implied odds, participants weigh persistent shelter and food pressures against potential moderation in gasoline costs. This tight contest reflects uncertainty over whether the energy-driven spike will ease sequentially or feed through more broadly, consistent with the April year-over-year acceleration to 3.8%. Key upcoming catalysts include labor market indicators and any further geopolitical developments ahead of the June 10 release.
