This market will resolve to “Yes” if the Republican party ceases to hold a majority in the United States House of Representatives at any point before polls open for the 2026 U.S. House of Representatives elections scheduled for November 3, 2026. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. A majority in the House of Representatives means holding more than half of the currently seated voting members of the U.S. House at that time, excluding vacant seats. Ties do not qualify as a majority. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the United States House of Representatives Press Gallery (https://pressgallery.house.gov/member-data/party-breakdown); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Republicans hold a narrow House majority of roughly 218-213 seats (with limited vacancies) as the 119th Congress nears its end, and recent special elections in vacated districts have produced no net partisan shift capable of flipping control. Most openings have occurred in safe seats for the incumbent party, while the handful of competitive specials resolved without the Democratic gains needed to reach 218 seats. With only about ten weeks remaining before November 3, 2026, the short timeline and low number of pending contests sharply limit opportunities for additional vacancies or procedural changes to alter the balance. Trader consensus at 96.9% against a pre-midterm loss reflects these structural constraints and historical patterns, where mid-session flips of chamber control remain exceptionally rare absent widespread simultaneous departures. Even so, scenarios such as multiple unexpected vacancies or deaths in Republican-leaning districts, extended vacancies preventing a quorum on key votes, or an unusually large cluster of special elections in marginal seats could theoretically narrow or reverse the margin before Election Day.
