The Federal Reserve's September 16 unanimous 25-basis-point hike to the 3.75-4.00% target range, its first since 2023, anchors current Polymarket pricing for the Sep-Dec path. Hot August CPI and PCE readings near 3.4-3.7% prompted the move and revised dot plot, with 16 of 18 participants projecting a further quarter-point increase by December, lifting the median year-end rate to 4.1%. Stable labor conditions, including a 4.1% unemployment rate and solid payroll gains, support a measured approach, while elevated inflation risks tilt toward additional tightening. Markets price the Hike-Pause-Hike sequence highest at 39.5% as participants anticipate a likely October pause ahead of the midterms and December data, followed by a final hike, versus firmer tightening paths at lower probabilities. Key catalysts include the October 27-28 and December 8-9 FOMC meetings plus intervening CPI and employment releases.
