Seattle's September precipitation averages 1.6 inches historically, with high year-to-year variability driven by the transition from summer dryness to the fall rainy season. Trader consensus favoring sub-1.5 inch totals (over 45% combined probability) reflects the influence of a strengthening El Niño, which recent outlooks link to cooler Northwest temperatures but below-normal coastal precipitation through mid-month. Key differentiating factors include the timing and strength of Pacific moisture influx, jet stream positioning, and early-season atmospheric patterns that can suppress or enhance rainfall accumulation. Model consensus shows potential for light showers early in the month but limited intensification until late September, keeping totals near or below the long-term median unless stronger systems develop.
