China's July CPI annual rate printed at 0.5%, missing forecasts and extending a pattern of subdued price pressures driven by falling food costs, especially pork amid ample supply and soft demand, alongside moderating non-food and transport inflation after fuel price adjustments. This outcome, the softest since January, has anchored trader views for August around similar levels, with the leading 0.7-0.8% and 0.5-0.6% brackets reflecting expectations of limited rebound absent stronger domestic consumption or fresh stimulus transmission. Persistent weak household spending, property sector drag, and core inflation near 0.9% sustain downside risks, while any uptick in energy costs or successful reflation measures could lift readings. The tight distribution underscores uncertainty over near-term momentum ahead of the September release.
