Forecast models from MetService and international guidance indicate Wellington's overnight minimum on September 13 will likely settle near 6–7°C, driving the tight 50% market split between those outcomes and elevated odds on 4°C or below. A ridge of high pressure is building from the Tasman Sea, promoting clearer skies and reduced cloud cover that enhance radiative cooling after sunset, while a late southerly wind shift introduces cooler maritime air and limits mixing. Sea surface temperatures around 12°C provide a moderating influence, yet lighter winds in sheltered valleys could allow localized drops. Model spread remains modest given the short lead time, with any faster southerly surge or increased low-level moisture the main variables that could push readings lower before official verification.
