Incumbent Mayor Patrick Johnstone holds a modest edge in trader consensus for the October 17, 2026, New Westminster mayoral election, reflecting his established position with Community First New West amid ongoing council divisions. Challenger Councillor Daniel Fontaine, backed by the New West Progressives, has positioned his bid around policy contrasts and ending perceived one-party dynamics, sustaining competitive pricing despite Johnstone's incumbency. Local factors such as housing, development disputes, and school infrastructure continue to shape voter blocs, while limited recent polling and the first-past-the-post system keep separation modest. Upcoming candidate forums and registration deadlines could shift momentum if they highlight turnout patterns or endorsements in this two-way contest.
