Hotter-than-expected August CPI (core +0.3% MoM versus 0.2% forecast) and PPI prints, alongside oil prices above $100 per barrel amid Middle East tensions, have lifted market-implied odds of a 25 basis point Fed funds rate hike at the September 15–16 FOMC meeting to 70–85%. The DXY trades near 99.10, consolidating after modest weekly gains as traders price higher Treasury yields and policy divergence. Retail sales data and the FOMC statement, dot plot, and press conference mid-week represent the dominant near-term catalysts that could shift rate expectations and DXY direction. Elevated inflation readings above the 2% target continue to anchor trader focus on monetary policy tightening risks versus historical base rates for similar pre-FOMC periods.
