Current National Weather Service and NOAA model guidance points to an overnight low near 66–70°F for Chicago on August 29, driven by south-southwest flow off Lake Michigan, increasing cloud cover, and a 30–40% chance of showers or thunderstorms that limit radiative cooling. These conditions favor the tightly bunched market leaders in the mid-60s, while any earlier clearing or lighter winds could allow modest additional cooling into the low-to-mid 60s. Historical August climatology shows average lows near 65°F, but persistent humidity and warm advection reduce the odds of significant drops below 60°F unless a stronger frontal passage develops. Traders appear to weigh the balance between cloud-trapped warmth and potential clear-sky cooling, with fresh model runs expected to refine the exact minimum before resolution.
