The SEC's May 2026 proposal to make quarterly 10-Q filings optional in favor of semiannual Form 10-S reports triggered intense pushback, with a record 225,000-plus comment letters—overwhelmingly from retail investors—opposing reduced disclosure frequency before the July 6 deadline. This investor sentiment, coupled with concerns over transparency and comparability for equity valuation, has weighed on adoption odds despite support from issuers seeking lower compliance costs. No final rule has emerged by mid-August, and historical precedent plus regulatory caution amid the comment volume reinforce market-implied odds favoring retention of the status quo. Key near-term catalysts include any post-comment staff recommendations or Commission votes that could still shift the trajectory.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission votes to approve a rule or otherwise formally enacts a policy that removes the requirement for publicly traded companies to file quarterly earnings reports by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
Narrow company or industry specific removals of quarterly earnings requirements will not qualify. Likewise a general removal of the rules which maintains the quarterly reporting requirement for specific companies will qualify.
Any approving vote on a rule change that reduces the requirement to report earnings from quarterly to a less frequent cadence will qualify.
The primary resolution source will be official information from the SEC; however, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.
