Recent developments center on the August 11, 2026, Democratic primary, where Rebecca Cooke defeated Emily Berge to secure the nomination for a rematch against incumbent Republican Derrick Van Orden in Wisconsin’s 3rd congressional district. The seat, rated highly competitive by analysts with a Republican-leaning partisan voting index, saw Cooke raise more funds than Van Orden ahead of the general election while a mid-2026 internal poll showed her holding a narrow lead. Van Orden won reelection by under three points in 2024, and the district’s mix of rural and mid-sized communities in the Driftless Area keeps both parties focused on turnout and swing voters. These factors have shaped trader consensus around the Democratic nominee’s position entering the fall campaign.
