Wellington's coastal setting and variable springtime winds are the main factors keeping trader odds tightly clustered around an 8–10°C minimum for September 17. Persistent northerly flow and widespread cloud cover have limited overnight radiative cooling, while an approaching southerly change and periods of rain are expected to moderate temperatures further by suppressing clear-sky heat loss. Official guidance from regional models points to overnight lows near 7–9°C, with small shifts in wind timing or cloud breaks able to push readings a degree either side of that band. Historical September minima average around 8°C, providing context for the balanced market pricing across the central outcomes.
