Recent April CPI data showing a 0.6% month-over-month advance, fueled by an energy price surge from Middle East tensions, anchors trader expectations for the May print near the same level. With market-implied odds on 0.5% and 0.6% nearly tied at 34.5% and 36.0%, positioning reflects uncertainty over whether cooling gasoline and shelter components will offset persistent food and services pressures. Core readings edged higher to 0.4% in April, underscoring sticky underlying trends that could sustain momentum into May. The June 10 release will hinge on upcoming labor-market and producer-price data, leaving scope for modest downside surprises if energy costs moderate.
