South Korea ETF EWY, which derives over half its weighting from semiconductor names SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics, has traded near $189 following a sharp rebound from early-September volatility, supported by record semiconductor export growth exceeding 80% year-over-year in early September data. AI-driven memory demand continues to lift corporate earnings and GDP forecasts, with Hyundai Research Institute recently raising its 2026 growth outlook to 3.5%. Offsetting factors include elevated oil prices above $100, rising U.S. Treasury yields, and Bank of Korea rate hikes to 3% that have pressured broader risk appetite and contributed to KOSPI swings around the 7,000 level. Traders will monitor the next round of export releases and any shifts in global semiconductor supply signals for near-term direction.
