President Trump has renewed efforts to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook following the Supreme Court’s 5-4 June 2026 ruling that blocked an earlier attempt and required proper notice plus cause under the Federal Reserve Act. In an August 2026 letter, the White House notified Cook of mortgage-fraud allegations and gave her until August 26 to respond before any final decision. Cook, appointed by President Biden to a term ending in 2038, has denied the claims and continues litigation asserting that pre-office conduct does not constitute removable cause. The renewed process directly tests the limits of presidential removal authority over independent agencies while preserving Cook’s position pending further court review or administrative action.

Statements which are contingent (e.g. “Cook must step down”), statements of intent (e.g.“I am planning to fire Cook) or other informal statements which are not unequivocal will not qualify.
If Lisa Cook resigns or otherwise formally departs her role as a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors prior to a qualifying action, this market will immediately resolve to "No".
The resolution source will be official information from Donald Trump; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
