Incumbent Mike Thompson and Democratic challenger Eric Jones lead in California's 4th Congressional District top-two primary on June 2, reflecting their fundraising edges and the district's Democratic lean despite recent redistricting under Proposition 50. Thompson's 28-year tenure and institutional support, including state party backing, position him strongly among voters, while Jones, a political newcomer, has raised over $3.2 million from individual and tech contributors, slightly outpacing Thompson's totals and signaling generational appeal. A fragmented Republican field of six candidates limits any single GOP contender's path to the top two, and no major polls have shifted the contest in recent weeks. Voter registration closes May 18, with early in-person voting beginning May 29, giving these frontrunners time to consolidate support before ballots finalize.
