Incumbent Republican Ann Wagner secured her party's nomination in the August 4 primary and faces Democrat Fred Wellman in Missouri's 2nd congressional district. The district's Republican lean, reflected in its partisan voting index and Wagner's consistent double-digit victories in prior cycles, anchors trader positioning at 77% for the GOP. A May 2026 poll showed Wagner narrowly ahead at 44% to Wellman's 41%, underscoring the seat's relative competitiveness within Missouri despite the structural edge. With the November general election still months away, factors such as national midterm dynamics, candidate fundraising, and voter turnout in suburban St. Louis areas could influence the final margin, though historical patterns favor the incumbent's reelection path.
