The tight trader consensus around incumbent Mark Sager and challenger Kirk LaPointe in the October 17, 2026 West Vancouver mayoral race reflects a classic contest between established municipal experience and calls for greater fiscal oversight and resident input. Sager, who announced his re-election bid in July after winning decisively in 2022, emphasizes completed waterfront acquisitions, park protections, and housing plans while addressing regional issues like the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant through a recent provincial review request. LaPointe, who declared in March as a veteran journalist and former Vancouver mayoral candidate, highlights concerns over spending discipline, public consultation, and Metro Vancouver accountability. With nominations opening September 1 and limited local polling available in this small district, additional entrants or campaign developments could shift positioning before advance voting begins.
