Incumbent Leonard Krog, seeking a third term as Nanaimo mayor, holds the leading position in the October 17, 2026 municipal election market. His July 2026 announcement of re-election, combined with prior provincial legislative experience and two successful mayoral terms, has solidified trader consensus around his incumbency advantage ahead of the September 11 nomination deadline. Anne Marie Dryden, the primary declared challenger backed by the Real Nanaimo slate since May 2026, emphasizes fiscal responsibility, public safety, and accountability but trails substantially. With most other potential candidates yet to file and the full field unconfirmed, market pricing reflects Krog's established profile and the limited time remaining for organized opposition to gain traction before advance voting begins in October.
