Gold trades near $4,630 per ounce as of late August 2026, up roughly 13% this month and 36% year-over-year, after a sharp rally fueled by doubled U.S. Treasury long-bond buybacks that revived the debasement trade and pushed 10-year yields lower. Recent softening in oil prices has eased near-term inflation pressures, while the dollar index hovers near multi-month lows, supporting non-yielding assets. The July PCE release and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks this week will clarify the path for the federal funds rate, currently held at 3.5–3.75% amid elevated 3.4% inflation and three dissents favoring a hike. Strong central-bank demand and positioning for any September FOMC shift remain key swing factors for gold’s near-term trajectory into September resolution.
