In Brazil's October 4 first-round presidential contest, Mato Grosso do Sul voters face a fragmented field where national frontrunners Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro compete alongside several right-leaning options including Ronaldo Caiado, Romeu Zema, Renan Santos, and Pablo Marçal. Recent national surveys show Lula holding a modest edge in first-round intention while Flávio benefits from his father's endorsement and Liberal Party infrastructure, yet the presence of multiple conservative candidates risks splitting that vote. Mato Grosso do Sul lacks recent state-specific polling, leaving traders to weigh the region's agricultural base and past voting patterns against broader economic and polarization trends. With registration closed and the vote weeks away, the tight implied probabilities reflect uncertainty over turnout, last-minute shifts, and whether any single contender can consolidate enough support for a clear state plurality.
