Incumbent Democrat Mike Quigley secured his party's nomination in the March 2026 primary with roughly two-thirds of the vote and now faces Republican nominee Tom Hanson in the November general election for Illinois's 5th congressional district. The seat's strong Democratic tilt, reflected in a Cook Partisan Voting Index around D+19 and Quigley's 38-point margin in 2024, underpins the market's 95.5% consensus for a Democratic win. All major forecasters rate the race Solid or Safe Democratic, with limited Republican infrastructure or fundraising to mount a serious challenge. A late-breaking scandal, significant health event, or unprecedented national political shift could theoretically narrow the gap, though historical patterns in similarly partisan districts indicate such reversals remain rare.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
