Incumbent Democrat Troy Carter faces limited opposition in Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district ahead of the November 3, 2026, jungle primary, where a candidate needs over 50 percent to win outright and avoid a December runoff. The district’s strong Democratic lean, reflected in Carter’s prior 60 percent-plus performances and its majority-Black voter base, underpins trader expectations that he will clear the threshold. Recent candidate qualifying through the August 7 filing deadline confirmed Carter alongside lower-profile Democratic and Libertarian entrants, with no substantial Republican or vote-splitting challengers emerging after the post-Supreme Court map adjustments. This environment has produced the current 94.5 percent implied probability for an outright first-round result.
