Recent polling across multiple firms shows the AfD maintaining a commanding lead near 42 percent ahead of the September 6, 2026, Landtag election, while the CDU holds steady in second place at 22–24 percent. This gap has remained consistent through the summer campaign, reflecting the AfD’s strength in eastern states and the CDU’s position as the primary mainstream alternative within the current CDU–SPD–FDP coalition. Smaller parties trail further behind, with Die Linke near 13 percent and others below 7 percent. Trader consensus for a CDU second-place finish aligns with these trends. A late shift in AfD support or unexpected gains by another party could alter the order, though no such movement has appeared in recent surveys.
