Intense national attention on the September 6, 2026, Landtag election, driven by the AfD's consistent polling lead near 39-41 percent, has elevated the contest's visibility and appears to underpin trader consensus favoring higher turnout than the 60.3 percent recorded in 2021. The prospect of the first postwar far-right state government or outright majority, alongside debates over immigration, the economy, and coalition barriers facing other parties, has mobilized broader participation in recent eastern and western state votes. Comparable recent contests, such as Baden-Württemberg's 5.8-point increase, reflect similar patterns of heightened engagement amid shifting party strengths and policy stakes. This dynamic of competitive polarization continues to shape expectations for elevated voter mobilization in the final weeks.
