With the Oscars 2027 Best Animated Feature race still wide open in August 2026, trader consensus reflects a fragmented field where no single title has pulled ahead. Released contenders like Pixar’s Hoppers and Toy Story 5 have posted solid box-office results and generally favorable reviews, yet their franchise familiarity and summer timing have not translated into decisive momentum. Laika’s Wildwood, Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn, and other originals such as Tangles and Forgotten Island remain untested with audiences, leaving room for critical reception, guild nods, and festival buzz to shift sentiment. Historical patterns show Pixar sequels often contend strongly, while original stories from respected studios can surge on awards-season narratives. The next wave of releases and early precursor indicators will likely clarify frontrunners.
