Recent National Weather Service guidance points to a high in the upper 80s for Chicago on September 4, with the market favoring 86–87 °F as the most likely peak amid a humid airmass following several days above 90 °F. Lake Michigan’s moderating influence is expected to keep shoreline readings several degrees cooler than inland sites, while increasing easterly flow and a 40–50 % chance of morning showers or thunderstorms could reduce afternoon insolation and cap maximum temperatures. Ensemble model consensus shows limited spread around this range, though subtle differences in cloud cover timing or lake-breeze strength could shift the daily high by 2–4 °F. Updated short-range model runs and National Weather Service briefings in the next 48 hours will provide the clearest signals ahead of market resolution.
