The leading candidate is a portable, doughnut-shaped smart speaker roughly hockey-puck sized, featuring a camera, sensors, moving mechanical elements for “personality,” and advanced voice models like GPT-Live; Bloomberg reporting from mid-2026 places a potential 2026 unveiling ahead of 2027 shipping at $300-plus. Earlier 2026 targets for earbuds or other wearables have slipped, while a July 2026 Apple lawsuit alleging trade-secret misappropriation adds legal risk that could delay progress. A niche Codex Micro macro pad launched that month does not count as the flagship consumer product traders are watching. Competitive pressure from existing smart speakers and OpenAI’s IPO timeline remain key swing factors for any near-term resolution.
