Ron Nirenberg, the former San Antonio mayor and Democratic nominee, holds a commanding position in the 2026 Bexar County Judge race due to his high name recognition from eight years leading the city, a decisive primary win over incumbent Peter Sakai, and a substantial fundraising edge exceeding twelve times that of Republican Patrick Von Dohlen as of mid-2026 reports. Bexar County's Democratic lean reinforces trader consensus around his frontrunner status ahead of the November 3 general election. Von Dohlen, a conservative activist and financial adviser, remains the only GOP candidate but faces structural headwinds in a county where Democratic candidates have historically prevailed. Scenarios that could narrow the gap include major late-breaking developments such as unforeseen scandals, significant shifts in voter turnout, or external events altering local priorities before early voting begins in October.
