Recent Fed policy tightening has emerged as the dominant driver of gold sentiment, with the central bank raising rates 25 basis points to the 3.75–4.00% range on September 16 amid sticky inflation readings near 3.4% CPI and elevated core PCE. This shift lifted real yields and the dollar, increasing opportunity costs for the non-yielding metal and contributing to recent price consolidation around $4,378–$4,380 per ounce. Structural supports from central bank purchases and inflation hedging remain intact, yet trader focus has turned to whether upcoming PMI, employment, and inflation data in the week of September 21 will reinforce or ease expectations for further tightening. Market-implied odds reflect caution around volatility tied to these releases and any shifts in Treasury yields.
