Recent July 2026 CPI data, which printed at 3.4% year-over-year after 3.5% in June, combined with Cleveland Fed nowcasts showing August headline CPI near 3.36%, anchors trader expectations around the 3.3–3.4% range. Modest monthly gains of 0.1–0.2% and continued easing in energy components have supported this consensus, while core readings near 2.5% reflect contained underlying pressures amid the Fed’s 3.50–3.75% policy rate. With the August release due in mid-September, market-implied odds reflect aggregated positioning that further cooling remains likely absent major upside surprises in shelter or services.
