Recent National Weather Service and ensemble model guidance points to a high temperature in the low to mid-70s for Chicago on September 16, driven by northeasterly flow behind a passing front that will increase cloud cover and bring periods of light rain or showers, reducing solar insolation and limiting daytime heating. This setup contrasts with the seasonal average high near 76°F and explains the market’s tight clustering around 70–75°F bins, where small differences in precipitation timing or boundary-layer moisture could shift the peak by a degree or two. Forecasters note typical model spread in such transitional patterns, with updated runs expected before resolution.
