Recent August CPI data showed a rebound to 0.8% year-over-year, driven primarily by elevated energy costs from Middle East supply risks and seasonal factors, while core inflation edged to 1.0% amid subdued domestic demand and ongoing food price deflation. Trader consensus clusters tightly between 0.7-1.0% for September as base effects, commodity volatility, and weak consumption data create uncertainty over whether the modest uptick sustains or fades. Persistent overcapacity and soft retail sales continue to limit pass-through from producer prices, keeping outcomes competitive. Developments that could widen spreads include sharper swings in global oil prices, new fiscal or monetary signals from Beijing, or stronger-than-expected consumption figures ahead of the mid-October release.
