**Trader consensus on a 26% chance of a female winner in 2028 reflects the early dominance of male frontrunners in both parties and lingering questions about general-election viability.** Vice President JD Vance leads Republican primary polling and prediction markets by wide margins, with other likely contenders such as Marco Rubio also male. On the Democratic side, the field remains fluid ahead of the 2026 midterms, featuring prominent women including Kamala Harris and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez alongside men like Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg; however, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s decision not to run and past losses by female nominees have fueled internal discussions about electability. Prediction markets price a female Democratic nominee at roughly 28%, indicating traders see additional hurdles in the general election. No major candidate has formally declared, leaving room for shifts, but the current structure favors male nominees.
