Gold prices near $4,430–$4,480 per ounce reflect shifting trader expectations for Federal Reserve policy ahead of the September 15–16 FOMC meeting. Recent volatility stems from mixed signals on rate hikes: stronger August nonfarm payrolls lifted odds of a September increase, pressuring the non-yielding metal via firmer Treasury yields and the dollar, while softer comments from Governor Christopher Waller and prior disinflation trends prompted rebounds. The primary near-term catalyst remains next week’s August CPI and PPI releases, which will clarify whether inflation progress supports a hold or reinforces tightening. Broader support persists from central bank purchases and geopolitical risks, though higher real yields cap upside in the near term.
