Democratic incumbent Kristen McDonald Rivet holds a commanding position in the Michigan 8th congressional district race after advancing unopposed in the August 4, 2026 primary. Forecasters rate the seat Lean Democratic, reflecting its Cook Partisan Voting Index near even and the incumbent's 2024 victory margin. Republican nominee Thomas J. Smith, who won his party's primary, faces structural headwinds in a district where Democratic performance has strengthened recently. Trader consensus reflects these fundamentals, including incumbency advantages, fundraising edges, and limited national tailwinds for challengers. Late developments such as significant polling shifts, candidate controversies, or broader midterm swings could still alter the outcome before November.

A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
