Gold (XAUUSD) trades near $4,550 following a sharp August rally to three-month highs near $4,700, fueled by U.S. Treasury long-bond buyback expansions, softer early-month inflation and jobs data, and safe-haven flows tied to geopolitical tensions and $40 trillion U.S. debt concerns. The pullback stems from sticky July PCE inflation at 3.7% year-over-year and Fed Chair Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks that revived September rate-hike odds near 34%, supporting the dollar and real yields. Traders now focus on upcoming catalysts including September 1–4 releases (manufacturing PMI, ADP employment, jobless claims, services PMI) and the September 15–16 FOMC meeting, where labor-market strength or persistent price pressures could shift implied rate paths and gold’s near-term direction. Market-implied odds reflect aggregated positioning amid these macro crosscurrents.
