Virginia Democrats secured voter approval in April 2026 for a constitutional amendment enabling a new congressional map that would have favored their party in up to 10 of the state's 11 districts. The Virginia Supreme Court overturned that amendment on May 8, 2026, ruling that lawmakers violated constitutional procedures when placing it on the ballot. The U.S. Supreme Court subsequently declined to reinstate the map. As a result, the districts enacted after the 2020 census and used in 2022 and 2024 remain in effect. With filing deadlines and election administration timelines now passed, no alternative map can be implemented before November 2026.
